This well-known Southeast Asian country is building a new airport.

Vietnam is set to open a new airport that will be one of the world’s largest hubs, designed to handle 100 million passengers annually. The Long Thanh International Airport, under construction in Dong Nai Province, 40km east of Ho Chi Minh City, will replace the aging Tan Son Nhat International Airport. This project is Vietnam’s biggest-ever infrastructure venture, as Tan Son Nhat, originally designed for 30 million passengers, has been overwhelmed by a 26% rise in international visitors.

The new airport, covering 25,000 acres, will feature four terminals shaped like a lotus flower. This design was approved in 2011 by Vietnam’s Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung, and construction began in 2021. Once completed in 2035, the Long Thanh Airport will cater to the growing demand for international travel. The project is estimated to cost £13 million, making it a major milestone for the country’s tourism and infrastructure development.
