Ryanair will eliminate paper boarding passes starting November 3, 2025, requiring passengers to use digital passes through its app. This makes Ryanair the first airline to go fully digital, marking a significant shift in air travel. The change will also end the $59 airport check-in fee. With 80% of its 200 million annual passengers already using digital passes, Ryanair aims to improve the travel experience and reduce paper waste by over 300 tons annually.
The shift is part of Ryanair’s strategy to encourage app usage and streamline the check-in process. However, it remains unclear how passengers without smartphones or those with dead phone batteries will board.
Exceptions apply for flights from certain airports in Morocco and Albania, where paper boarding passes are still required due to local regulations.
