Tampa International Airport Announces $1.5 Billion Terminal Expansion with Delta as Anchor
Tampa International Airport (TPA) is set to undergo a major expansion with the construction of its $1.5 billion Terminal D. The new terminal will be anchored by Delta Air Lines, which will operate at least six gates and a new airline lounge. Delta currently offers flights from Tampa to several major hubs, including Atlanta, Boston, New York (JFK and LGA), and Minneapolis, as well as an international route to Amsterdam. A new direct flight to Austin, Texas, will also be launched soon.
Tampa Airport CEO Joe Lopano expressed excitement about the expansion, stating that the new terminal will enhance the travel experience for passengers. The state-of-the-art facility is expected to open in 2028, featuring sixteen gates, a new shuttle system, an international passenger processing facility, as well as shopping and dining options. The terminal’s design will prioritize natural light, with large glass-enclosed spaces for a modern feel.
The terminal expansion aims to support the growing demand from Florida’s increasing population, which has made the state the fastest growing in the U.S. The new facilities will help accommodate the anticipated 37 million travelers that pass through Tampa Airport annually.
